Goodwill: A Resource, a Mindset, a Gateway to 21st Century Leadership

Goodwill in Every Interaction is our vision for humanity. Just imagine you and 7.6 billion people around the world practicing Goodwill in Every Interaction. It's awe-inspiring. And it's an evolutionary leap in our global culture. But what, exactly, is goodwill? And how can it benefit you, your organization, your community, and our world?

Here at GEI Global Leaders, we think of "goodwill" as a quality of presence that serves people in three primary ways: as a resource, a mindset, and a gateway.

Goodwill: A Regenerative Resource that Nurtures Human Potential

As a resource, goodwill is highly sustainable—even regenerative—because it is positive, dynamic, and abundant, as the graphic below shows. Goodwill uplifts you, inspiring you to new levels of creativity, innovation, emotional engagement, and critical thinking.

Goodwill exists in unlimited supply within the core of your being. Thus, goodwill is continuously available, a flow of potent energy that you can access immediately and apply to your life.

Moreover, goodwill is a unifying force that helps you to synchronize your internal states of existence. In other words, your mind, body, emotions, values and beliefs all operate together. From this coherent state, your potential can unfold more easily and effortlessly. Operating from goodwill, you and others thrive.

Goodwill: A Mindset of Abundance and Excellence

As a mindset, goodwill is a whole-brained state of existence. Your left-brain and right-brain hemispheres synchronize, which allows you to take your leadership to a whole new level.

Goodwill is potent. Goodwill is a mindset of Abundance and Excellence, as the graphic below shows. This mindset has implications across many areas of your life, from your inner existence to the tangible manifestations of your outer world.

In a mindset of Abundance, you can create or acquire what you need, when you need it. A mindset of Excellence means you operate from the attributes that emerge as an expression of your authenticity. These attributes include love, compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, and contentment. From the combined mindset of Abundance and Excellence - Good Will - you can experience livelihood and well-being. You can create a fulfilling life.

From the mindset of goodwill, you tap into the resourcefulness of your own inner authority, which then creates your external reality. You trust the emanations, thoughts, and feelings that arise from deep within your being. You take possession of your gifts and talents and actively manifest them in the world.

In turn, operating from your inner authority allows structure in your life to arise from your inner source of wisdom. This structure allows you to flexibly and easily arrange your life into patterns of organization moment to moment. You operate more spontaneously, which produces feelings of joy, purpose, and fulfillment.

New research is revealing the importance of joy, purpose, and fulfillment in life. Scott Barry Kaufman, a psychologist at Barnard College, Columbia University, recently published interesting findings from his studies of people who reach the peak of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At this stage of personal development, people work to achieve their full potential and to express their creativity, the March 5, 2019, Aeon article about Kaufman states. Kaufman believes that evolution into purpose and authenticity can transform many of the problems of modern society.

"Self-actualised individuals are more motivated by growth and exploration than by fulfilling deficiencies in basic needs," Kaufman states. "Self-actualising individuals are able to paradoxically merge with a common humanity while at the same time able to maintain a strong identity and sense of self."

Kaufman sees this level of personal development as attainable by many people, regardless of age, gender, and education, the article states. When people operate from a mindset of Abundance and Excellence, they can reach more easily the level of personal development that new research like Kaufman's suggests is the right direction for humanity to overcome our current challenges. A mindset of Abundance and Excellence helps people to fulfill their potential and find joy and purpose in life.

Goodwill: A Gateway to 21st Century Leadership

As a resource that nurtures human potential and a mindset of Abundance and Excellence, goodwill empowers all of us toward a new model of leadership. Goodwill maximizes the gifts of all people. Goodwill allows everyone to be a leader, marshaling all aspects of your being: mind, body, emotions, and values and beliefs all operating coherently in your world.

As Kaufman states in his research findings, this style of leadership is most needed to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Goodwill is a gateway through which we all can step into 21st Century leadership, as the graphic below shows.

What’s missing in leadership today is an approach that taps into new resources that are constructive, sustainable, and allow everyone to be a leader and achieve self-governance. To step into this form of leadership, we need to make a radical shift into a new mode of communication and interaction: From knowledge to wisdom.

Wisdom taps into your deepest connections and allows you to build a more purposeful and meaningful life. Wisdom implies insight, sound judgment, and deep knowing. Wisdom builds Global Leaders. Global Leaders naturally express Goodwill in Every Interaction.
